The buck stops with you. You are well regarded by customers. colleagues and stakeholders alike.
You like to change status quo. You are not afraid of disruptions. You think in infinite possibilities.
The one place you are lagging behind is in your mind - an eternal quest of what could be?
You are restless on account of that thought. And when you want to run faster, your eco-system just does not keep up with you. Sometimes they look at you with a blank face. It feels like they are years behind you. They play 'catching up' with you till a point and then they can't. In fact, even you can't in action.
You are stuck with this question:
Am I the only one?
As a coach, I hear it too often.
Am I the only one who dreams impossible dreams?
Am I the only one who is so hard on myself & others?
Am I the only one who struggles with discipline?
Am I the only one who is this crazy?
Am I the only one who struggles with time?
Am I the only one who procrastinates?
Well the good news is:
You are not.
What should one do when this question pops up? Many people feel lonely at the top because of this one question.
What can one do to embrace this question better?
It better be worth it
Sometimes questions like these provide a pause for reflection. They are not here to stop your journey. But to help you process it.
If the impact that you are trying to make serves a larger purpose & makes you feel that its worth your and your team's sweat, blood and toil - you may choose to embrace what you are doing inspite of this every nagging question - am I the only one?
2. Support System
Do you have people in your life that support you, no matter what? It doesn't matter whether they agree with you or disagree with you.
In your quest to make a dent in the world, have you cultivated those relationships or ignored them?
This is a right time to evaluate where do you stand and make mends for it.
3. Coaches, Mentors, Advisors & Communities
Do you have a personal Board that can elevate you? Mentors and advisors can show a path to you while coaches can help you find your own path that is sustainable for you.
In times of self doubt, they can be very valuable mirrors to bounce your ideas with and explore possibilities.
A collaborative community of peers can lift you up with their presence and cross-pollination of ideas.
4. Reverse mentoring
The easiest way to shake things in our head is to get perspective from people unlike us - the younger generation for example.
They can offer not only a different perspective but give us a clear picture of how far we have come.
Be open to "Chill bro" :-)
5. Belief in a friend Universe/ Higher Power/Higher Calling
A belief in a friendly Universe or a higher power anchors you in your journey.
Living your calling gives a reason, a big "why".
Any of the these will take you through periods of self-doubt.
What helps you navigate the 'Am I the only one?' question?
